Insulin Pump & Saline

This morning we had an appointment at Nationwide Childrens.

We were receiving insulin pump training specific to the Omnipod Dash system we had chooser.

The last step of training was to apply a pump to Preston that was filled with saline solution. This would allow him to get used to wearing one, Mom & Dad to get used to the Personal Diabetes Manager (PDM) that controls the pump, and everyone to get used to a site change, before actual insulin was involved.

We didn’t waste any time with practicing applying a new pod. The boys were playing around and rough housing when Preston let out a cry. They had knocked the pod and pulled it off a bit. It hurt, probably scared him, and necessitated a new pod being applied less than twelve hours after the first one.

It’s a new world that we all will have to get used to.
